Tuolumne Meadows to Donohue Pass Camp (13.5 miles)
Woke up at 4:50 AM and started getting my gear and myself together. Started out working on an 800 calorie cheese cake and about a gallon of water. The key to working through the altitude problems is going to be hydration. Caught the bus from Crane Flats to Tuolumne Meadows. Nice size deer outside the gas station. Can't believe these Californians pay $2.57 a gallon for gas. This price wasn't just at the park. Nice drive up the Tioga Road which was built for silver mining which was never found??
Started out on JMT from Tuolumne Meadows at 11:00 AM. Came upon Ireland Lake trail cut off at 1:35 PM. Passed Kuna Falls at 3:05 PM. Passed a troop of Boy Scout on their way up Donohue Pass. Nice enough group of boys. Also met a Pediatrician name Cathy that seemed to be well versed on altitude sickness. Went over Donohue Pass at 7:55 PM!! Finished day 570 ft. below the pass. Temperature dropped to 54 degrees as soon as the sun went down.
